Summer Solstice Blessings!

I wrote the bulk of this during the severe “heat dome” affecting the Midwest and the Northeast parts of the US this past week. It all seems ironic having just passed through Summer Solstice that we are experiencing record-breaking heat right now. I live on the coast of Maine for many reasons — a temperate climate is one of them. Yes, we have long and snowy winters, but that’s what makes the other seasons so wonderful. However, last year at this time, it was 79.° This week saw a blistering 108° here.

Right after I refilled my hummingbird feeders that morning, a sweet male goldfinch landed on it, trying to drink up the droplets of water on the exterior surface of the glass. It wasn’t even 9am yet. I immediately brought out my birdbath and filled it with cold water.

When I was a child, I was outside most of the time — even when I lived in Miami. My mother kept a photo of when I was about three years old, standing with my beloved black lab at the time, Duke. When I first saw this photo, I did not recognize the little girl with dark skin and sun-bleached, dirty blonde hair, and was surpised when she said that it was me. That is how much time I spent outside! Back then, it was “healthy” to have a tan. No parent doused their children with sunscreen. At most, we may have slathered on sun tan oil with an SPF of 4.

The Sun has come up in several sessions within the last few weeks. I surmised that it was due to the fact that Summer Solstice was approaching. But feeling more into it, I decided to perform a shamanic journey to the spirit of the Sun, as it seemed as if it had more to share.

Well, this wise spirit certainly did! Here is what was relayed:

Hello! I am the Star that creates light and warmth for all the living beings on your planet. I have missed being honored in the way your foremothers and fathers honored me.

There are many in your modern era who take my light and warmth for granted — or simply complain about my heat. But without my constant molecular combustion, you would not be alive. The planets would also not be spinning in concentric circles around my field and the Earth, as you call it, would not be in its current elliptical orbit.

I hold the solar system together, keeping everything – from the planet you call Jupiter to the smallest particles, in my orbit. My connection between your planet and myself drive your seasons, your ocean currents, your weather, your climate, your radiation belts and your auroras. Although I am central to your existance and have been regarded as a God to your ancestors, there are billions of stars like me scattered across the Milky Way. Humans of Earth, please remember to honor me so we can be in right relationship with one another again.

My message to you at this time is: despite how your planet is positioned towards me, I am always shining nonetheless. Remember that you, too, are made of the elements of stardust. Despite factors that are out of your individual control, you can choose to keep your radiance steady too, like I do.

Moral of the story: Honor the Sun, the seasons, the tides, and the wonders of Nature. Do what brings you joy, laughter, and expansion in your heart. Do what our beloved star does: keep shining despite all the external chaos.
